Introducing: ASCEND – A Program Designed to Advance New Leaders in Entertainment

For nearly 10 years, we at Artemis Connection have dedicated ourselves to the study of workplace cultures, organizational structures, and the development of custom strategies to help our clients build innovative, productive, and collaborative teams.

As an extension of our ongoing efforts towards gender and racial equity in the workforce, we are excited to announce a brand new program and certification tailored specifically for the entertainment industry. ASCEND is a multi-tier program that promotes the active sponsorship of women into leadership roles at studios, networks, agencies, creative organizations, and entertainment technology companies. Our mission is to play an active role in rebuilding the new standard for equality, inclusion and workplace conduct in the entertainment industry.

It’s no secret that the world has been captivated by the recent reports of vast misconduct by industry giants. Because of the entertainment business’ immense influence on global culture, it’s pertinent that companies and leaders take immediate strategic action to assess and address what’s happening inside their own walls. Studies have long shown that more diverse boards and leadership teams yield higher returns for companies across every major industry. In this new era of long-awaited transparency, doing the right thing – and showing the world you’re doing the right thing – is essential for success. Integrity and credibility are now linked to your bottom line.

In order to adapt some of our best strategies for entertainment clients, we’re partnering directly with change-makers and trusted thought leaders in the industry. Joining our team is producer and writer Laura Youngkin, veteran of The Walt Disney Company, and creator of The Brave Millennial – a comprehensive research and storytelling study exploring how gender bias impacts millennial women at work. Laura is a sought after voice and thought-partner in this space, and we are thrilled to engage her first-hand research and experience in creating better workplaces for women in entertainment.

The core philosophy behind ASCEND is active and intentional sponsorship of women by company and studio leaders. We implement and achieve this in a few ways:

  • ASCEND Training & Development Workshop for executives, managers, and teams – a full-day experience that demystifies diversity & inclusion, and inspires new voices to lead
  • ASCEND Sponsorship Program creation & implementation – a customized program built, launched, and tracked specifically for your company, studio, or unit
  • ASCEND Certification  - a full-service assessment of your company’s current performance, custom strategic solutions to address areas of opportunity, with the goal of becoming publicly ASCEND certified

We believe that advancing more women into leadership will not only create a more productive, dynamic, and positive workplace experience for employees, but it will also lead to the creation of successful entertainment products in every corner of media. There’s never been a better time to examine and act on gender equality at work. We’re ready and excited to take on this charge with you. Let’s do this. Together.
